Every year, after wrapping up the publication of our issue and before jumping into the next open reading period, the Grist editors meet to discuss new ideas we have for the next issue. This year we’re celebrating our tenth anniversary, and we’re excited to share a number of new developments with you over the next few months. First, a significant change in how we use our submissions fees:
Beginning this year, we will be paying our contributors.
Literary journals that pay their contributors are rare, but we think it’s an important way for us to recognize the value of the fantastic work we publish at Grist.
Starting with Issue 10, we will pay $10 per page of poetry and 1 cent per word for prose up to 5,000 words. These are modest sums, certainly, but we’re proud to do it.
We can’t wait to see all of what you have to send us, and we’re excited that we’ll be able to support that work in a new way.
Looking forward to Issue Ten!
